Almost all Internet fora are moderated, and those that aren’t usually end up self-moderating to some extent by way of the majority flame. The Internet is commonly considered to be the last bastion of free speech, but we all know it isn’t really. I recently wrote a short article about myth-planet Nibiru, saying that it did not exist, and therefore would not hit the Earth in 2012. The opinion I gave was that sitting on the fence and preparing for disaster “just in case” wasn’t useful, considering it would be difficult to be consistent. Some writers shamelessly sensationalise. Some make genuine mistakes. If you’re not comfortable lobbying the former, consider approaching the latter. Hopefully, your tactful comment will be met with graciousness, followed by explanation and/or correction. If it’s met with vituperation, that’s not your problem. Browsing through articles online, this title certainly caught my eye as I imagine it would anyone with an interest in popular science and skepticism or homeopathy. I can also imagine the prejudices readers would bring to the article would show themselves as doubt in the former and excitement in the latter cases.
